ControlBooth FAQ

Here you can find answers to questions about how the board works. Use the links or search box below to find your way around.

Safety

Members of ControlBooth are ALWAYS encouraged to keep safety as a top priority. Forums are monitored by the CB Staff, but may not be able to react immediately. We reserve the right to edit or delete posts which we feel are unsafe, or discuss unsafe practices or materials. ControlBooth shall not be responsible for damage, injury or death resulting in any information posted on ControlBooth. When in doubt, always consult a qualified professional in person.

Copyright

You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless either you or ControlBooth.com owns the copyright, or you have, and are able to present, express written consent of the copyright holder. You also agree you will not use any service of ControlBooth.com with the intent of illegally soliciting copyrighted material. These restrictions include both public and private means of communications through ControlBooth.com. Private communications include, but are not limited to, private messages, emails, and instant messenger exchanges between fellow members of ControlBooth.com.

Language

Members may not attempt to post censored words by adding spaces, dots, substituting characters, or by any other means in an attempt to defeat any censors put in place by ControlBooth.com. ControlBooth.com provides free and premium services to students who may be accessing ControlBooth.com from behind a school system's content filters. We do not allow cursing on our forums as a self-policing measure to make sure that the school's content filter does not block ControlBooth.com, rendering it's mission useless. We will warn those who try to bypass these filters and additional violations may result in a temporary or permanent ban from ControlBooth.com and any affiliated sites.

Communications

If, for any reason, you receive communications from any member in which the content is uncomfortable for you, notify one of the ControlBooth.com Senior Team members immediately with the details of the conversation, and we will deal with the situation as best we can.

Your Personal Information

Do not release your home address, pictures, phone numbers, employers, or any other personal information with anyone unless you are certain you want that information out there in cyberspace, Google indexes this site daily, so anything you post will rapidly be available the anybody on the internet. Be vigilant by knowing with whom you are communicating, what they will be using that information for, and why they are asking you for it. Be smart; be safe. While the majority of the members of the ControlBooth.com community have good intentions and truly try to help each other grow, we are not your parents. We cannot control where you go and what you do, nor can we protect you. Utilize good judgment in all communications that you send through this, and any, website.

While we protect your email address that is listed in your profile, (it only appears to visitors that are logged-in) we cannot guarantee the privacy of anything you post in a publicly accessible thread, and thus you should never post your email address to one. Spammers have gotten quite cunning in obtaining addresses from the Internet. Unless it's in a PM, (which are secure and only you, the recipient, and board administrators can read) anyone and anything can harvest that address for nefarious reasons. This is just a suggestion however, and not an absolute rule. Nevertheless, don't come crying to us if your email inbox fills up faster than a roadcase after a Green Day concert.

Search

Use the search. We have provided a very powerful search tool whose link you can find in the main menu bar. Before creating a new thread, use the search to make sure another member has not already posted the same or similar topic within the past year.

When posting, try not to ask stupid questions. We are familiar with the belief that, "There are no stupid questions — only stupid people." On the Internet, however, the first is not always the case. A stupid question is one that you could have found the answer to yourself if you would have just searched the website, or one that you're asking in the wrong place. If you search and don't find the answer to your question, and you have reason to believe that you are looking for the answer in the right place, go ahead and ask. Fortunately, most ControlBooth.com surfers are kindly folks who will be happy to help you out, even if some may consider your question to be stupid. However, it is only polite to take advantage of their time if you absolutely have to, so be sure to search first.

Stay On Topic

Post messages to the appropriate forums. It may seem obvious, but don't post stories or questions about high school theatre competitions in the "Sound Tips " forum. If you think that ETC is the best thing to happen to lighting since the light bulb was invented, don't waste your time in the "Questions of the Day " forum, and don't make posts just saying "I HATE MACKIE " to a thread about a Mackie product. Nobody there cares. If you are in doubt, it is always okay to ask -- but ask briefly and via PM.

Keep on-topic for the thread in question. The ControlBooth.com Senior Team will provide guidance and re-direction when topics venture too far into the gray area between on-topic and off-topic. Our purpose is to keep the community flowing in the right direction (as defined by the ControlBooth.com Mission Statement), not to attack anyone's position or thought.

Software and Media Piracy

ControlBooth.com does not condone or allow any discussions on the subject on the availability, use of, or tools to access illegally obtained media (including, but not limited to: video, audio, and software). Violations will result in a warning and continued violations will result in being banned permanently from ControlBooth.com and any affiliated sites.

At ControlBooth.com, we will support Fair Use as long as the media was purchased legally and is appropriately licensed for your intended use. Again, that is the extent of the topic that we are willing to cover. Any topics on breaking DRM scheme's even if it violates what is understood to be Fair Use, will not be tolerated on this site and it will be deleted without warning.

Sales

ControlBooth.com is primarily an education forum. While we welcome members from all fields ControlBooth.com does not support or allow public or private sales on ControlBooth.com. Nor does or will it stand behind any products, sales or products offered on the forum other than to advise the reader that there are many suppliers and distributors out there with a variety of pricing and product range that have not posted; that, in fairness, should also be kept in mind. Abuse of these policies for commerce other than absolutely necessary in being sole supplier of a very specific product will result in a warning or possible loss of membership privileges. Intent is to take off one's hat and talk tech, and in no way develop intended business sales other than by way of association where appropriate and kept off line out of fairness to all retail sources. If you have any questions about whether your post would violate these rules, please contact a member of the ControlBooth.com Senior Team via private message. The spirit of this rule is this: Members promoting their products or services privately thru PM or thru the rare post are expected to contribute in other ways as well and if they want to promote a product or service without participating in other ways they are welcome to become an advertiser.

Auctions

E-Bay Auction Restriction: ControlBooth.com prohibits posts (anywhere on ControlBooth.com) referring to specific online auctions (such as E-Bay) for soliciting more auction bids. Replies to Want Ads here in the classifieds section that point to auctions, there-by pointing the person looking for something to a specific auction, we allow. The intent is to prevent the advertisement of auctions by sellers soliciting auction bids. You will find this general rule on most e-mail lists and message boards that are out there. In addition, we do not allow nor do we encourage posts with pointers to auctions with the intent of asking a question about some aspect of the item for sale. It boils down to, if you are the seller in an auction, you should not be posting an unsolicited ad pointing to that auction on the website. If you have a question about whether or not a post is appropriate, contact the ControlBooth.com Senior Team via private message.
