There are some lamps that have position requirements. Some say "burn base down" meaning they must always be pointed up. Others are rated "base down to horizontal" meaning they can go as far as horizontal but if they go any farther you are going to kill them. Nothing Aussie weird about them, they are in use here as well. We had some in college that were "base down to horizontal" and you had to be very careful about how you placed the
