I think that's a pretty cool idea! I always "halve" my cords when storing them. Bring the plug end of the cord back up to where it comes out of the device , effectively halving the cord, then do it again, ( depending on the length of cable may take several halves) then tie the resulting bundle into a loose half hitch.
This is how I store my tools in the shop as well. The idea of a de-plugged powerstrip is pretty cool.
