Default You can't search on DMX

Hi Dave

Following one of the posts where they metioned searching for existing threads I tried searching for DMX.

The search engine returned a message saying there were to few letters or to many results.

Is there anything you can do about it as being able to search for something like "DMX" would seem be quite useful.

Thanks
Cutlunch

Yes, this particular glitch is rather annoying. I seem to recall that LED searches fine, which is the same number of letters. Additionally, I find that PAR is too short, so if specific terms are to be defined such as DMX, could PAR also be added?

I assume that it searches the words in each thread, so it could be that there are too many posts. I mean...think how many of our posts have DMX in them? Just a thought...but I'll wait for the real answer from Dave.

In general, especially with common words like these, it is better to search a more specific topic, like "DMX Cables" or "Gel Blue", etc.

What Foxinabox has said is true, but if you say put in "DMX cables", then it won't pick up results for DMX cable. And if you leave out the quotes, then it will search for everything with the word cables in it. At least that is my understanding of the search engine... I think I'll wait and see what Dave has to say.

Argg.. I thought I had added dmx to the exceptions list. The search engine is set up to index four words or more. There are a couple exceptions to the rule like LED. I'll add these in and re-index when I go to bed tonight. Are there any other three letter words that I should add to the exceptions list before I set up the engine to re-index?

Hi Dave. I found another you may want to include could be helpful not entirely sure. That is XLR. There have been a number of posts where this has been mentioned. Although more unlikely, some schools sound like they have old gear maybe the lighting protocol AMX.

We did get PAR, right? And gel. I think that would pretty much cover it.

thanks for the suggestions... my son wasn't feeling well last night and I didn't get a chance to start the re-index, so I'll do it tonight.
