Default Creaky Turntable

Hey all, we just got our rented turntable installed for our run of Fiddler on the Roof. The very first thing we noticed was the awful creaking sounds it made every time somebody stepped on it. Multiply that by about 40 or so cast members and you've got a LOT of unwanted noise on stage, especially during scene changes. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to quiet this thing down (besides screwing it down tighter to the frame) that won't upset the rental company when we return it? All said, the thing is really cool, but the creaking is just way too loud.

Thanks!

Have you tried calling the rental company? Maybe they have some advice for you.

They're actually coming by tomorrow to pick up some of their equipment that they left here when they set it up, so while they're here, we're gonna ask them.

Coming from a person that deals with rental scenery often, on both sides of the issue, its their job to fix it. If it is not performing to spec, then they need to get it fixed. Now, the issue could be in your stage, so who knows.

is your stage level? cause I can see a disparity in level could lead to creaking. What kid of base does it have (what's resting on the deck o' the stage?) depending on what it is, you might be able to shim up some parts of it to eliminate movement.

Not knowing where the squeaks are comming from makes trouble shooting a bit difficult. One of the standard things I try is a liberal aplication of baby powder between edges, it works like graphite without the mess. if it's the casters then the only ways to fix it are; greasing < if they have grease zirts, or replacment < which you shouldn't have to do with rental equipment>
