Here's a fun game that a lot of Feld guys play. Any time someone says the word Shikaka everyone in the game that heard it has to touch their knee to the ground. It's origins are from Ace Ventura When Nature Calls a film from 1995 starring Jim Carrey. in the main plot, Greenwall asks Ventura (Carrey) to find a sacred animal, Shikaka, which has become a point of contention between two tribes. Shikaka, which is a great white bat, is a sacred animal for both the Wachati and Wachootoo tribes of Nibia, a fictional, stereotypical African country similar to South Africa. Whenever its name is spoken, the tribesmen must drop to a knee and bow. Its name is presumably a contraction of two slang terms for feces; "s**t" and "caca", possibly because the bat's guano plays a prominent role in the plot of the film.
The best part is once you're in the game it's always on. So you can call at any point, during a show, while riding in a car, my friend has a good story about dropping the S bomb in a stand up roller coaster with no bottom. Good times always

How does the game get spread?
I Assume that once someone calls it, and someone that's not playing asks, soon as it's explained to them they're in?

sounds a lot like "THE Game"
and because of that i just lost. if you've never heard of it, everyone in the world is playing THE GAME. the point of the game is to not think about the game. if you do, you say "I thought about the game!" and anyone who knows of it will immediately understand that you lost. some variations have you get a thirty minute grace period before it starts again. seriously, look it up on Wikipedia (not thats an incredibly reliable source...). lots of fun during load in and out, not so much during a show over ther headsets. but i'm gonna teach everyone here how to play "Shikaka" now too.

RE misterm: I just lost the game. Thanks a lot. And so did all of you. I like this game Shikaka now... Might make the smoking area during tech rehearsals look funny tho, with 5 or so people all on one knee... I am going to teach that one to my crews from now on.

haha imagine doing it over the headsets in the middle of a performance.
That would be rather awkward on followspots. Last edited by edmedmoped; September 8th, 2009 at 05:30 PM.. |

Darnit, people, I just lost The Game...
That does indeed sound like a fun game to play. I can't imagine how the stand-up roller coaster situation resolved.
