Default No fakes allowed in China!

From Broadway To Vegas September 6, 2009 :
Quote:
If you are a performer who lip-synchs during your performance and you intend to book your act in China - be forewarned - beginning in October, all performances involving singing or playing in commercial venues in China will be recorded and observed to avoid lip-synching, stated a new rule posted last Thursday on the Ministry of Culture's website.

Promoters who stage shows without recording them will face a fine up to $439., stated the proclamation.

Lip-synching is the matching of a singer's lip movements to a recording. Taped music use in commercial performances will also be supervised.

"The act of lip-synching and faking the playing of a musical instrument is a gross violation of regulations and laws", said Tuo Zuhai, an official with the Ministry of Culture, adding it not only infringes on the rights and interests of the consumers but also did harm to the singer or player.

This new ruling is the result of the lip-synching controversy created during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games when a girl who enchanted millions of viewers with a moving song was later found to be lip-synching. I wonder which blond pop stars WON'T be extending their world tours to include China...

What will this mean for the Cirque show in Macau and the laryngitis track that they must have?

I believe that Macau is owned by Portugal not china, although it is just a ferry ride away from Hong Kong. I may be wrong, if it had the same sort of leasing agreement that Hong Kong had, and was given back to China.

It has been many years since I was in Hong Kong or Macau. There was a time when I use to visit there on business every month or so.

So it's ok to take a product design and reverse engineer it and sell it, but lip-syncing is against the law. Things are f-ed up over there.

Well the High School I used to work at can no longer take a tour of China.

When they have enough people to actually review these tapes they need to find something more productive for them to do.

Based on the fact that the fine is less than 500 bucks, I imagine that stars that use lip synching regularly could probably afford to just not record it, do their thing, and then pay the fine at every show...Just dont book 1000 shows in a row, eh?

Would it be published? $500 is a small fee on a huge show, so as long as it isn't publicised I'm sure they would be happy to pay to avoid singing.

Macau is a special administrative zone of the PRC...like HK.
