Kanye West Ruins Taylor Swift's Acceptance Speech at VMAs

Leave it to Kanye West to produce one of the most infamous moments in VMAs history before the 2009 show was even an hour old. It happened after Taylor Swift’s victory in the Best Female Video category for “You Belong To Me,” which beat out Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” Just moments after Swift accepted the Moonman and began her acceptance speech, Kanye West stormed the stage, taking the microphone from Swift to announce Beyoncé deserved the award.

“Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!,” Kanye shouted to a mortified Swift and the speechless audience. And as quickly as he ran onstage — MTV cut away to show Pink, and when they flashed back to Swift, West already had the mic in his hand — he was off, leaving a shocked Swift in his wake.

Everyone at the Radio City Music Hall looked stunned, as the cameras captured an astonished and horrified Beyoncé still in her seat. Soon after, the audience gave a standing ovation in support of Swift. To add insult to injury, after Kanye handed the microphone back to Swift, her time was up, and MTV cut to a video featuring Tracy Morgan and Eminem.


According to sources at the VMAs, Swift was seen hysterically crying backstage after Kanye’s outburst, making it convenient that her performance of “You Belong to Me,” which immediately followed the acceptance speech, was prerecorded. Wale, who is serving as MC for the house band, told the crowd, “You can’t fault a man for speaking his mind,” which was promptly met by boos from the Radio City Music Hall crowd. According to our sources inside Radio City, Kanye was promptly tossed from the VMAs after interrupting Swift’s speech.

Now Kanye's really lost it - that was an incredibly juvenile move on his part. I hope the backlash to that remark is overwhelming. I used a few choice expletives when describing this one to friends.

As much as Taylor Swift has turned in to more of a brand than a person, she has done a lot for someone of her age - and she certainly deserved the award (I'm just happy when country music gets any kind of recognition outside of their own awards ceremonies!), especially since she writes many of her own songs (too many mainstream Country musicians rely on other songwriters to provide them with material these days).

C'mon, give the guy a break. It's not like he shouted out "You lie!" and has garnered campaign contributions of over $1 million.

Ironic, isn't it! Kayne West ruined Taylor Swift's moment when Beyonce was going to win Video of the Year all along. All I can say is that I do appreciate Beyonce's class in handling that.

This is not the first time Kayne has interrupted a performer accepting an award either.

MTV isn't relevant anymore so they purposly create "shocking" moments that would even make Vince McMahon embarrased.

If you look at the pics, starting with his arrival on the scene, KW was carrying and swigging from, what appears to be a fifth or liter of bourbon. Perhaps, he could pass his behavior off as the manifestation of the impairment rendered to him by the alcohol.

My personal thought: No class.....No talent.... I never want to work any of his gigs.
