I'm wondering what your opinions are when it comes to what microphone is best for micing a talk box. I am curently using a SM57 which dosent sound bad at all, im just wondering if id be better off with something else like a Beta 57A or something.

Unless the signal you're getting out of a stock SM57 is weak, there's no point in going to a Beta. Main difference is a more powerful magnet (stronger signal) and cosmetic changes to the windscreen. Frequency response, pickup pattern, etc. are practically identical - you won't hear a difference.
I'm assuming you're referring to the guitar effect with the speaker in a box and a hose running up the mic stand where a guitarist can put it in his mouth and vocalize the notes he plays on his guitar. I usually stick with an SM58 - usually he'll use it for regular singing as well, and a 58 is a little harder to pop than a 57. John |

Yes I am talking about the guitar affect. I have used it with one of my SM58's but i've found that the cylindrical shape of the SM57 is far better for attacking the tuing. I think I will just stick with a SM57.
Thanks for your opinion John. |
