Note that these are, if I'm not mistaken, FRS radios and, as such, are not legally allowed to be used for commercial purposes. Using them for anything other than personal use could result in fines if you're caught. Just a word of warning!

Schools get away with a lot. For example the music performed by our high school is right protected and we also take liberties with motion picture, and stuff. For example a DVD or VHS movie states for non-public performances and home viewing only. But they show the movies, especially movies based from books. If your corporation xyz and the companies can get money from you that is one thing. If they go after a school, then it will just make them look bad.

There are instances where your school can not screw around; one is software licenses and the other is show rights. Make sure you have the rights to the show before you even start preproduction.

People have fits when I tell them they can't charge admission, unless all the songs are original charging is a violation federal and possibly international law.

Not quite, avkid. There are all sorts of arrangements to be made for that sort of thing, but it gets very complicated. A building's blanket ASCAP/BMI license will cover background music use, and if appropriate performance (ie, concert) use, but if the music is used as part of a dramatic performance, then it falls under the rights that are licensed by the music publisher directly rather than by ASCAP or BMI.

But to say as a blanket statement that you can't charge admission if the songs aren't original is both untrue and misleading. It's untrue becaues of the above, and misleading because even if you don't charge admission, if you don't have the appropriate licenses you can still be fined.

Lately I have taken to giving out the occasional Mini-Mag to my new trainees.

Some of the technicians here are presented with beer from the designers after opening night.

Aye to the guy who said the keys to the auditorium, those are coveted indeed. However, if you can get copies yourself without someone giving them to you (as I got them), then you have truly shown your worthiness. (Note: I'm not saying that to sound hoity-toity, I say that because former TD's have gotten their hands on master keys to the school, inside and out D: Those crazy impressive bastards)

Other than that, not so much; our sponsor got his hands on some megacombo wrenches, so I might be convinced to get him to give some out if certain techies prove their worth...

Oh, and we take the techies we deem most 'sheltered' to Hooters. Been there what, three times now? (One girl is still holding out. Hm.)

At my school, only the arts teachers have the keys, and not the students. I was the only student ever to recieve keys to the auditorium and booth, and will probably remain the only one. Then again, I'm the only one who has ever chosen to major in theater design and technology with a lighting/sound concentration.

But I do pass on the password to the TD computer that I got put in the booth, along with all of the special knowledge that only I knew until I graduated and passed it on.
