I'm trying to find a way to organize our gels and keep them from getting trampled (we currently just kind of stick them under the desk in the booth). I recently managed to acquire a cabinet-type thing with some shelves in it and that is where I want to move the gels. I don't know how to organize them other than lay them flat on top of eachother after sorting them.
Does anyone have any better ideas? I don't have a filing cabinet although I wish I did.

If you can't fit one of the crates in your new cabinet, use a vertical file system with the stiffest file folders you can find. Example:
![]() (This is something that you would see at a dentist's or a doctor's office. Go with an End Tab file folders.) ![]() You could also go with an expanding file folder, however you would probably have to replace these every two to three years, depending on how often you use them and how full you pack them.

we use a standard 4 drawer file cabinet with hanging folders.

Filing them is the best way to do it, we use hanging folders for each color, and then 4 folders within it to hold the different size cuts. If your in school still you could probably request a file cabinet from the school district, they probably have a bunch of them laying around not being used.

Here's a handy tip: Take apart a swatchbook and staple both the swatch and the paper onto your folder. You'll not only have the name and number, but also a reference to check colors against.
Don't let un-filed color media accumulate. If done as soon as practical after every show, it's much easier. Most shows don't use more than ten colors, and it should be fairly easy to tell colors apart. Also, never file anything that isn't labeled!
