Default Lighting Dungeon

So this is more of a story than any sort of question.

I started classes in grad school this week, and today was our first lighting hang day. At one point I was send to the basement to find a barn door for a PAR 64, and I witnesses the greatest sight ever. Benieth the stage is a dark, damp, lighing dungeon. Its freaking amazing, I don't think they have thrown away an instrument since the early 70's.

I am curious to know if anyone else would feel like a kid in a candy store down there? I can't wait to start repairing ancient lights, if nothing else to start a little museum of lights in our theater.

I experienced a similar thing at school when I said, "Hey, what's in that cabinet?" That is one version of techie nirvana.

At the theater that I work at we are just finally getting a new lighting system. The old system is from the early 70's...we are calling it a update of the system and not an up grade. It is going to be awesome when it is done with moving lights and all.

This Dungeon of mine is great though, there is everything in there. Beam Projectors, Tiny 3" Fresnels, ERSs everywhere, cyc and foot lights. One of the days when we are light on work I am just going to disapear down into there and see what I can fix and salvage, if nothing else it would be great experience fixing a ton of different types of lights. My god I am sick, this is just exciting for me... I think I have tech wood.

I'll keep everyone updated as to what treasures I find down there, but in the mean time I must away I have a ton of reading to do for my grad level theater research class (e.g. Time to teach theater people how to write).

Once you get the time, I suggest that you take a camera down there and post some of the pics into the Question of the Day section as a "what is this?" type of question.

Haha, I kinda had a moment like that when I walked into the storerooms @ WPI (my new school) and saw the stacks of equipment they have! It's not really old stuff, but it's just A TON of stuff compared to what I am used to.

(JBTW, sorry for not bein arround... I've kinda been really busy w/ everything in my first few weeks of college!)
