The book "Technical Theater for Non-Technical People" has an awesome 20 page glossary in the back. Don't be insulted by the title buy the book. You'll learn a lot. It's both VERY educational and fun reading. I use it as the text book for my "Intro to Tech Theater" class.

Adding mine in red.
XLR- X Series Locking Ring - I am certain this has been discussed here before VGA- Video Graphics Array RGB- Red Green Blue DMX- Digital Multiplex RMX-? RCA- Radio Corporation of America - they probably developed it ADC - As in Analog to Digital Converter? HDMI - High Definition Multimedia Interface TRS - Tip, Ring, Sleeve SCART - It is an acronym from French, not English F Belling-Lee DisplayPort Binding post - What explaination are you after? A terminal that accepts (normally) banana plugs & bare wires Banana plug Fahnestock clip DVI - Digital Video Interface Mini-DVI - I assume a miniature connector used for DVI UDI Mini-VGA I assume a small version of a VGA connector DFP BNC DIN Mini-DIN 13W3 D4 If you have never heard of DIN and Mini Din, here are some examples: S-VHS uses a 4 pin mini DIN Old style keyboard connectors were 5 pin DIN New PS2 keyboard/mouse connectors are a 6 pin mini DIN. I am not sure what you are after soem some of these. Eg. The Beiling Lee (I think that is the standard onnector for RF connections to TVs in Australia, but might be wrong), I suspect was developed by Mr. Beiling and Mr. Lee. |

Hey this might be the right place to post this interesting bit of info. A while back me and some of the guys here were talking about the name "Soca" the slang for Socapex. Many people mistakingly call it 'Socaplex', which is understandible considering it has multiple cores and in English we often used "plex" with reference to multiples. So we got to talking about what the word socapex really meant. We figured it was an acronym for something, but we couldn't figure out what. Being a "Man Of Action"
I went right to the source, Here's the result; -----Message d'origine----- De : Envoyé : jeudi 13 avril 2006 01:00 À : Cc : Meurice Nicolas Objet : Message coming from Internet site Date de la demande : 13/04/2006 company : Artists Repertory Theatre name : Van J. I have the feeling it comes from a military acronym. after doing a google search on the subject I did find an acronym that stands for Special Operations and Communication Assembliage, which sounds like a pretty good acronym for what soca does. I really don't want to waste anybodies time and I did notice on your FAQ page that it is a name brand but I'm wondering if you branded the original military acronym. Dear Van, In fact the origin of Socapex (which is a french name) is : SOC.iété AP.plication et EX.ploitation du procédé ponsautl Amphenol Socapex is now present on Military / Aeronautic / Oil & Gas / Homeland Security / Entertainment .....market, see www.amphenol-socapex.com Best regards, Nicolas Meurice. I kinda wish I could speak French, it'd be interesting to know what that it is in English. I'm getting "Society of the application and exploitation of...something." Any translators in the house? |
Google translates it to: Company Application and Exploitation of the process ponsautl
I would guess then that it does not nicely translate... |
Yeah I gues I should get back in touch I haven't been able to get a translation for ponsautl I think it might be a typo. I beleive the rest most closely translates as " corporation for application and utilization of <ponsautl> procedures"

redbull- Nectar of the theater gods Behringer- unknown origin: see crap, copyright infringment gaff tape- duct tapes non-residue nemesis. Theater Technician- People in the auditorium who make the show happen. Technical Director- 1) in the eyes of the TD- he or she is the pinaccle of technical greatness. 2) in the eyes of all the other techs- boss. Actors- self-centered people that like to dance on stage while wearing makeup. The Ultimate nemesis is the Technicians well thats all I have
