I'm not really sure what you're asking, Mac. We have storage areas just off our stage where we store props and lighting equipment (for stage use). We also store costumes and furniture in our rehearsal halls closets. We have an off-site unit for prop, large furniture props and costumes, but we use our closets for the stuff that we are inclined to use show-after-show

Or are you asking what sort of shelving to use?

It may be that I'm just missing something or perhaps because it's Tuesday and I've spent the entire morning doing an inventory of auditorium seats.

That's a [date] joke, right? Aren't they all in the same place they've always been? Have you lost any due to attrition? What if you identified each with something like a Section, Row, and Seat Number to make them easier to categorize?

well we have about 24 wireless mics. and 12 wired mics with all of their cords along with 8 clearcom belt packs. Would this type of equipment be stored in the tech booth or down on the stage level.

We have a pegboard in our booth, one storage closet by the booth (The custodians have taken it from us to store something else), one off stage storage, and a sceneshop.

Ideally, any equipment that is to be used on stage should be stored as close as possible to the stage. The less time you have to spend hauling grear, the better. I empahsize IDEALLY because storage is ALWAYS an issue. Some time you have no choice but to store items up a flight of stairs, off site, or across the building.

In a LOCKED cabinet off stage somewhere, definitely. With severely limited access to the keys.

A LOCKED, full height cabinet that is secured to the wall very well so that the whole cabinet cannot be opened. As Derek said, very, very, very limited key distribution.

Sadly, no I'm not joking. When we built the theater, in an effort to raise some working cash, the theater 'sold' its seats. There are little name plaque on the arms of the chairs - then they decided that the ones against the walls violated fire regs (and no one thought of this during construction?!), so they pulled one seat from the ends of the rows. Last year, they decided to pull Row A so that we could extend our apron. Now the question becomes, do we reassign seats for Row A - I mean the seats are still around, just in storage. The new Fundraising committee wants to sell all remaining seats, but first they need an inventory of what seats are still available. Since some of the plaques have been pried off by ankle biters, I have to go through with lists and try to figure out which seat is which...sigh. Then what about the companies that are out of business? The people who are dead? Do we resell those?...sigh...

You're right, Grog, it's probably not the worst jobs I've done, but it does rank up in the top ten. No wonder no one had attempted the task in 20 years...

Charlie.

P.S. Listen to the wisdom of Big D and Soundlight - keep a handle on those keys and never leave the cabinet unlocked, even for a minute. Mics love to walk.

Sure, resell them.

Absolutely not, it would be improper and demonstrate poor taste.
