Default Gig Bags

Having just graduated high school, I have only just realized that other non-educational venues will not supply me with tools to do my job and that I will have to go buy and shlep my own equipment.

I sorta' feel stupid.

Anywho, what do you all recommend I put in there? Im planning on doing some carpentry work, but im going to try to stick to lights and sounds until i can decide which one I like better.

So, that having been said, what should I have in my "gig bag".

P.S.-Sorry if "gig bag" is the wrong term. Im borrowing musician's vocabulary.

Do a search for tools...... probably one of the widest discussed subjects on here...

There are other threads on here on tools that people think you should have. I think that some of them get way to detailed or try to cover everything to the point where there are tools you dont need.

Here is an quick brake down on what I like to carry, (Im a lighting tech)

-**8" C-Wrench
-*Leather Gloves
-**Flash Light (S)
-*Knife, one that will clip onto the belt, and a normal pocket knife
-Multi-Meter
-Pliers , needle nose and or channel lock
-Di angle cutters
-thumb cutters
-bandana
-small note book
-pen/pencil
-sharpie black and silver

Things like multi-meter and thumb cutters and others depend on what you're doing and what type of venue you're going into. Also its all personal preference.

The * items are the one I think you should never show up to a gig without, the ** just put emphasis on that tool.

And I think the term gig bag is a fine term

For me, I always have my...

Leatherman Wave (takes care of most tool functions)
MiniMag
9/16" Socket wrench or (we have clips for our lights, not C-Clamps)
Various Pens
Sharpies
Leather Work Gloves
Sometimes I have E-Tape or Masking Tape if I need to mark something that can't be written on.

Pretty much anything else I would need is available in one of the toolboxes in the booth or in the tech storage room.

Finally I find someone else who carries around a small notebook and a pen/sharpie! I have been looking through all these threads on stuff people carry on them and this is the first one I found that said this.

ya theres been times when someone wants me to do so much and they just tell me all at the same time. While you MIGHT remember all of it but its just a backup. They're are also so many times when you run into something as your working but have to keep going, so all you have to do is jot down a quick note and thats it.

I'd go with a 6" C-wrench if you're going to be doing lights... I've never needed an 8" and it just seems that a 6" is easier to use...

also I'd suggest getting a multi-tool... they're uber useful. Like a Leatherman... woo....
