Literally, not symmetrical, or not shaped the same on both sides. Must commonly used in lighting as an adjective to describe the J-shaped reflector used in cyc flood lighting fixtures. If lighting from the top, the lamp is up; from the bottom, the lamp is down. This provides for a more even vertical distribution of light.
