PC spotlight

A stage lighting luminaire having a spherical reflector and Plano Convex lens, that predates the ERS. Having a beam somewhat between that of an ERS and Fresnel, the fixtures are more popular in Europe than in the US. The fixture, once dominant in the US, has been replaced nearly completely by the ERS. The modern PC Spot uses what is often referred to as a "Pebble Convex" lens. Whereas the older PC Spot's lenses had a smooth and clear flat side, the modern lenses have a pebbling or stippling on the flat side, much like that on the back of a Fresnel lens. This helps to soft the beam slightly, as well as reduce the prismatic rainbow aberrations that were found on the edges of the beam from older PC Spot units. It was this attribute that was the main factor in the discontinuation of their use in the US.
