See also "peak distribution." A method, some would say THE method, of bench focusing an Ellipsoidal Reflector Spotlight to achieve the flattest, most even field, with no hot spot in the center. This is particularly important when projecting a gobo, to insure that all parts are in focus without the use of a donut.
