Default peak distribution
See also "cosine distribution." A method of bench focusing an ellipsoidal reflector spotlight to achieve a field with a hot spot in the center, and intensity falling off rapidly toward the edges, much like the beam of a Fresnel. Most modern ERS fixtures don't allow this adjustment easily, unlike the first generation of axial Strand-Century Lekos where moving the lamp in and out of the center of the reflector was simply a matter of loosening a set screw. While peak distribution makes for a brighter center and some would argue is easier to blend multiple sources, it has fallen out of fashion. As modern ERSs don't soften their edges as well as previous versions, the use of lighter and lighter frosts has become common to "take the edge off" the beam and make for better blending.
