Control/Dimming - Extremely Odd Express 24/48 Problem

Hey CB,

So basically my school's express 24/48 does something like this, after about a minute of being on it will highlight all of the channels very quick and keep doing this. Basically as if you Hit Chan 1 and than keep hitting the right arrow key.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have seen this exact symptom in an Express 24/48 at a local school near me that my church rented for an event. The channel and sub faders were the only thing that worked, any attempt to access the interface via the keypad would start this error. I couldn't try to fix it since it was not my board, but it seems like a key it getting stuck, or some other failure of the keypad interface.

Hi Scott,

The most common cause of this is either a stuck key or something plugged into the wrong port such as a DMX line in the RFU port.

I would first try unplugging all cables except for the power and monitor. See if the problem continues. If not, carefully make sure that each cable you are reconnecting is going to the correct port.

If it does continue after unplugging everything, try a power cycle. If it still happens, your console may need to be repaired.

It could also be the entire brick. I've seen unusual problems arise from that.

Have you and the OP tried the 789 hard reset? NOTE: THIS ERASES EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE CURRENT SHOWFILE AND SETTINGS! BACKUP FIRST.

Generally this is a dust issue. Board could use a good servicing.

If your touchpad is failing, registering false hits, and annoying you; you should have your console come in for repair. The touchpad replacement is a very tricky repair and simply unplugging the touchpad will unfortunately not fix the issue based on the way that the connector is wired. It can actually cause more problems to unplug than to leave it plugged in.

I would follow Grog12's advice about cleaning the console. If the issue still persists, a repair is in order to replace the faulty touchpad.

Chasing through channel numbers in Live or menu items in Setup is a great indication of the RFU and ETCLink cables being swapped where plugged into the console. Happens a lot after tech rehearsal and moving the console. They both have 6 pin plugs, unfortunately.

Yes, track pad repairs must come back to us. The biggest issue with the pads is accidental damage from something being dropped on them or from using an ink pen on a piece of paper sitting right on top of the pad. Creasing the pad through one of these actions causes them to make continual contact.

Ahh! This is it! The idiot who put the board back last put the ETCLink into the RFU port! I didn't even think twice and just switched it back and than I was wondering why it didn't have the problem anymore and yes, I know, we still have a working ETCLink system hahah
