We have a few Right Arms and Smart Color Pros. The scrollers we power with the Apollo Smart Power 75W. If I connect only a right arm to the data from the console, everything works perfectly.
For some reason, my superiors decided we didn't need to get dmx splitters yet. So I have had to make several 4-5 pin adapters so I can daisy chain dmx from a scroller. In theory this works fine. Now if I put an adapter right after a power supply, and then take that data to a right arm, the right arm won't talk. It spazzes around in the manner of The Gmod Idiot Box: Episode 4 - YouTube. The chain resembles this:
Console ---- I/F501 converter ---- Scroller PSU ==== Scroller ==== Scroller ==-- Right arm
(Where ---- represents a 5-pin cable ; ==== 4-pin ; ==-- the adapter I made)
The right arm also spazzes if the chain follows this manner:
Console ---- Scroller PSU ==-- I/F501 ---- Right Arm
I know the pinout of my adapter is good, because if I connect it in this manner:
Console ---- Scroller PSU ==-- I/F501 converter ---- ????
at least the I/F501 works.
So, why won't the right arm listen if there's a scroller power supply/adapter before it?
I will admit, the line is not terminated. I have some 390R resistors, so I can hack some sort of terminator today and see what happens.
