Default Moving Head Wash vs LED moving Head wash

    Hi There,

Was just wondering how this moving head: 2pcs 70W RGBW (4-in-1) 7LED Moving Head Spot Light DMX 12 channel Lighting | eBay would stack up to a Martin MAC 300 or similar in terms of brightness?

    Thanks,

    Tim

Well, if a venue told me they were giving me Mac 301s and I got into the venue and saw those pieces of chinese crap I'd be pretty livid. You get what you pay for.

I meant the tradition 250watt Mac 300 but thanks for the feedback! Its the brightness that is the key thing, will they work in a small venue bearing in mind the Martin MAC 300s worked well there? I don't need frosts or smooth dimming or even good pastel colours.

    Thanks,

    Tim

At this point, there are very few LED products out that are as bright as their incandescent equivalent fixtures. The ones that do compete are not a shady E-bay deal and tend to cost close to (if not a lot more than) their incandescent equivalent. If you want to go LED, call your local dealer and setup some demos so you can see for yourself.

Plus 1 to gaffer. if you're trying to get an output similar to mac 300, I'd look at the martin aura... or on the "cheap", get mac 101 with the diffusion kit

The only way to know for sure is to get a hold of photometrics data, but honestly I doubt it exists.

I'm sure you can match the intensity of a mac 300 with many of the less expensive brands but I don't think the direct Chinese knock of is going to be a good starting point.

The only incandescent fixtures I think of that have an LED equivalent are Par cans and Ellipsoidal. In both cases the LED models of those fixtures I've used have all been brighter than the original.

I'd like to know what your using. The new S4 LED doesn't quite match up to a 575w s4 let alone a 750w. And most of the LED pars I've seen look pretty sad next to a 1k par until you get into the really saturated colors, and even then they don't hold up on video.

You're right. 1k pars are brighter with no color. LEDs are brighter with all other areas of the spectrum. I personally don't use par cans as white light, so the output of my LEDs are over twice as bright as a par64 with gel which is what matters to me.

We always send out demos of our units to clients who request them. But that is an advantage of dealing with a company in America.
