    Default Pictures of Old Shows

    Hi all,

I'm designing a production of Millie and am toying with the idea of lighting it in a retro 1920s style i.e. how a designer in the 20s would have made it look. My first instinct is that means lots of footlighting, but I'm trying to do some research into what stage lighting of the roaring twenties actually looked like. I've found plenty of history about designers, the instruments and even found old lighting plots online, but its hard to figure out what the stage picture actually was like from those.

So, anyone know of any websites or books that have photos of 1920s musicals? Obviously color would be ideal, but even b&w photos would make for a good study of directionality.

    Thanks in advance!

I can't venture to fill in 1920's style, but McCandless was mid 30's. Wouldn't be actually period, but would provide a nice old look.
