Default Strand 300 soft key issues

    Hi,

Having an issue with a Strand 300 console. It was working fine before the last production and during strike ( I wasn't there) they disassembled the computer and disconnected the console.

I reassembled the unit and computer boots up fine and the faders operate, but the entire soft key and control panel seems dead. It does light up and eventually the soft keys at least display in the window, but most of the time is is just a date that appears. If the soft keys display, they still don't register and no key on that entire panel functions. The ethernet cable goes from the computer to the control panel before the faders so I'm pretty sure its getting information from the computer, just not sending info back.

I'm running a very simple rig right now so I was able to program the subs and a bunch of LEDs but this won't work for a real show.

I tried finding out info on the 500 page pdf manual but I'm not finding a default or setting that would cause this. Any help RO?

We're operating without a mouse or intelligent mouse, and by changing pages I can function for this evening's show. To be honest I'm not sure if it matters which of the 4 ethernet ports the line is coming out of, but I've tried all 4 and reboots with no change.

    Thanks in advance,

    Phil

Before you suggest it, I did do the clean 200 at boot up to no avail.

To answer you out of order, if you are running newer software, you can plug into any of the 4 ports. If you are running older software, the command tile needs to be plugged into the top left one I believe. What software version are you running?
When you plugged the tiles back in, was the console on? It has happened where if the processor is powered when you plug the tile in, the tile can become damaged

    Running 2.6

I think there is a reboot console somewhere in the depths of the configuration pages but for the life of me, I can't find it.

Console was not hot swapped. It was powered down when connecting the Ethernet cables.

    Any other suggestions?

Plug a keyboard into the board and boot it. At some point, there will be something that will let you abort loading the Palette OS. I can't remember what it is off the top of my head. Ctrl + Break pops into my head, but I don't know if that is it. The goal is to get into Dos. Then run the 220clean utility by typing 220clean at the command prompt. This will check all of the software files and fix anything corrupt. You will loose your settings, so you may want to note them down. I did this recently on my boards, and even though I saved the setup info, it would not restore it all, so I still had to manually setup some things. If that does not work, I am suspecting hardware damage of some sort.

Hold down "q" then push the on button to have it launch into the command line.

See the last line of my post, I ran the clean 220. Still didn't help. After the gig I brought the unit back to my room restarted and it was fine.?????

Not sure what happened, but everything seems to be fully operational now.

Still looking though - is there a reboot hardware or check tiles function? I'm wondering if it may be a bad ethernet cable?? Maybe a short in the cable cutting in/out?

Take a look at the Ethernet ports on the console-- they are not the most robust and we had them break on 2 of our panels (one the plastic connector broke in half, the other a couple of leads came loose from the PCB). If the connector doesn't stay well try a known good ethernet cable and if that doesn't work you have a bad port.

There is a RESCAN PANELS under the Report display key and one of the diagnostics or configuration softkeys.

I usually go there and rescan the tiles to see if that help. (This would be for the future since you have it working now).
