Default How will leds compete with 500watt par 64s

    Hi there,

Have a lighting rig for small venues whi. Consists of a truss with 4 151 5mm pulse led par cans, 2xQtx led par 38 12x1 watt led cans and a 36x1 watt qtx led par can. I am going to continue to increase the amount of led equipment I have, mainly going into 50watt+ tri led fixtures but would also like to get some 500watt par 64s as side and front light, leaving leds for backlights. How would my current stock of leds compare to say 8 gelled 500watt par cans? If the par 64s would overpower which I suspect they will, how many more led pars would I need to get?

    Thanks,

    Tim

If your getting 50 watt tris they shouldn't over power much when compared againts a 500w par. 1ks though are another story.

500w Par 64s gelled will be out run by decent LED fixtures. The deeper the gel color, the more an LED fixture wins. Ungelled, a 500w par 64 will be much brighter than most mid-range LEDs. You seem to be thinking about going against the usual trend of replacing par cans with LEDs - especially since you are talking about using the pars with gels.

I sold the last of my par cans this year and am using LEDs for color wash and lekos for ungelled front light. I'm never going back.

I'd go with LED's totally if you can afford it - no gels to cut, save on power, easier setup, better looks. Par64's are becoming much less practical than ever before.
Happy to be turning lights on and off since 1998.
