Default Replacing LED Lamp for Halogen on SCX600??

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if its possible to change our standerd 250 Halogen lamps with a high power LED lamps. I might sound stupid right about now but they have LED replacement.. for pinspot/flood lights for kitchen and stuff but obviously they are very low power i think about 3watt LED or something like that.. i was wondering what would be equivalent to 250w halogen lamp. Also, if someone had tried this mod, please let me know. thanks.

Unfortunately, that's not going to be possible. The electronics and optical system of the fixture are specifically designed for certain lamp and you can't just swap a different one in and expect it to work in either respect. The reason manufacturers can make LED replacements for pinspots and flood lights is because both of those have no electronics and no optical system so there is nothing to stop you from mucking around with what goes in them. It pretty much impossible to do this for something more complex like an ellipsoidal let alone an intelligent fixture.

I think the answer depends on what the fixture is - but probably not

For example if you want to replace the lamps in a PAR strip, or a PAR 56 spot, or a birdie you might get away with it. Otherwise probably not

It works very well on the vanity lights I just replaced (60w incandescent swapped for 10w Philips LED) but I can't imagine it working with stage lighting.
In the picture below, the fixture on the right is LED, the left standard. I'm only using 2 of 4 sockets for each fixture to test for part of a longer-term retrofit project.

If you're willing to gamble $50 this may or may not work.

I think my problem is that I don't know what a standerd 250 Halogen lamp is. I don't even know what a standard 250 Halogen lamp is ( and I am very disappointed that our resident grammar and spelling pedanticist did not already pick this up).

I've got him too flustered with my "too/two/to" and "they're/there/their" issues in one of the other threads.

I'm assuming DaMenaCe might have meant 250w, something like this.

Ah - I just saw the title of the post where he tells us what fixture he is using. Looks like a Martin SCX600.

Looking at the spec sheet it appears to be using a 24Volt 250 watt projector style lamp ( IE with a built in reflector).

I am not aware of any LED unit that would work in this unit. The LED type lamps with a reflector are usually 12 volts, and I expect have a different pin spacing from the Martin unit. Even if you could get some kind of lamp to fit, I would be shocked if you got any intensity from the fixture as the LED will be dimmer, and have very different optics from the original unit.

Hey guys, Sorry i havent been on here in a while. JChanault & Chausman apology for incorrect grammer and spelling errors. English is my second language, and i trying to get better at it but, unfortunately i am far from being "normal."

In any event, i am indeed referring to martin mania scx600 fixtures. What i ment to say when i said "standard" is factory assuming you guys might already know what i am referring to, sorry about the confusion. The lamp is a reflective 250watt Halogen lamp, similar to the the one Chausman posted. I looked at the spec sheet as well and tried googling but, like you guys said there is nothing out there. So, i was wondering if someone tried playing around with it and maybe "moded" something.

My understanding of the information is.. i need a lamp that operates at 24Volt of AC power and produces as much power/light as a 250watt halogen lamp. The Martin connector was the last thing on my mind, the lamp didnt look anything special. inside the fixture. the lamp sits almost at the bottom. the optics arrangements is almost at the top. so, i was thinking as long as i can house a bright enough light, everything else would probably fall in place..There are some brands like American Dj that are using 10W LEDs which, like you guys said are not bright enough. i was thinking if we can just beef that 10watt led to maybe a 50watt or something higher, would that be equivalent to a 250watt Halogen lamp.. brightens wise?
Maybe i should look for a "lumens chart"

So far, in my little research i'have found..

This is an experimental thing, probably not the best idea to do this and if your planning on taking these fixtures on road you run into another set of problems so, this whole thing might be far for ideal or practical but it was a thought so i posted it here. Sorry for any confusion or writing errors.

    Thanks,
    Dennis.
