    Default etc emphasis software? Installation

    Hi all,

I've got an emphasis USB token/authentication key, however we do not have the original CDs anymore. I'm looking to install it as a virtual machine, however all of the downoads available from etc say I must have the original software installed first. whole thing seem a little silly since it won't work without the USB key anyway. Does anyone have a digital copy of the software they could send me?

    Thanks

Have you tried to call ETC about it? Someone might be able to send you a link to a download or a new CD

In this case I can save you a phone call and tell you that this isn't going to be possible. The full recovery CDs that you would need are specifically designed to only work with the hardware that was used with the Emphasis Server. Emphasis does not run a full version of Windows, but a rather customized embedded version that is specifically configured to remove lots of components, including those that would allow virtualization to work well. In addition to the hardware issues, ETC cannot knowingly send you the software for use on a device that we did not manufacture due to the licensing agreements within the software.

If you have a USB dongle, it either came from an Emphasis server or is an offline/WYSIWYG visualization dongle. If it came from an Emphasis server, I would recommend that you contact us to arrange for a repair if your server is no longer functioning.

Sorry to be a kill joy on this topic.

As follow on to what Kirk stated, and as expansion, the Emphasis system, is a separate Win XP server/computer that uses a console as a "facepanel". To make a functional Emphasis system, you need the server/computer as well as a console (Expression II/III, Insight II, III any brand of Express). As part of the original purchase you would have been given an Emphasis USB dongle as well as some flavor of WYSWIG (Report, Perform, etc...), which would have had it's own separate USB dongle. I believe the last version of WYG that Emphasis worked with was 17. You then would either have downloaded or installed from CD onto a Windows PC, the Emphasis Off-Line Editor as well as the WYG software to use both in an off-line system. The Emphasis OLE with associated WYG software could connect to an Emphasis server and function as a remote console system / enhanced RFU / Designers Remote, etc.... but the OLE had no method of outputting DMX from the PC, so without a functional Emphasis server and facepanel or Net2 node, the OLE is merely that, an Off-Line Editor.

So the hardware you have now is not going to get you anywhere without all the software as well as a WYG dongle.
