Angry Elation Design Spot 575E

I am having a horrible time with my Elation Spot 575E. They are acting very erratic and no matter what I do I cant get them to behave. The DMX is running out of LEDs and then into the Elations. All I did was take down 4 martin manias and hang 4 elations. The manual I have for the Elations has the older LCD screen for addressing and the elations I have, have the new High tech blue screen on the front. Any suggestions?

I have the Design Spot 250 and had similar problems when I tried to use them on a wireless DMX system (The Design Spot 250 only has a 3pin DMX).

They worked fine direct DMX from the board thru a Bridge, (since I have 3 pin and 5 pin accessories). It seems they don't play well with others. Try making it the first unit in your DMX chain, or consider purchasing a DMX bridge to split the signal and run your Elations off of that.

Obvious questions here, first. Are you getting a DMX signal into the unit? (usually the 'period' is lit when DMX is present). You've double-checked your addresses and make sure you aren't using the same DMX addy on two devices? Double check your cable (swap it out, and DON'T use the crappy cable they send you with the unit!). You can try terminating the last device on your chain, but I don't think that's your problem (I tried that too, it did nothing).

Good luck!

-Chris

Please define erratic. Is you DMX line terminated? Are all your data cables in good shape? What kind of controller are you using? Are they patched correctly? Are any other devices being "erratic?" Do you have audio active mode turned on (it should turn itself off when data is applied, but worth checking)? Here is a link to the manual.

Hmmm, I have yet to have a problem with my DS575Es data wise yet. They have been chained along with other things, like strobe/s other movers, Elation or otherwise, LEDs, and even dimmer packs.

I always use a splitter however and only DMX. The cable they come with is like the XLR that comes with a Shure mic, more or less meant for the trash unless in a jam. Would check cable and/or termination like icewolf said. Also check the forums on Elation's website in the tech support area. Gines or John would be more then happy to help.
