Default Martin MAC 301 Wash

In my regular biweekly or so visit to the Martin website to see if anything new was happening, I found something interesting. Looks like they took the idea (and screw placement) or even the whole product that is the JB A7 Zoom fixture that's been advertised like no other recently and put it in their own deal.

Unlike most other "sincerest form of flattery," this one is legitimate, as the following press release explains:
Pressrelease - Martin Professional A/S and JB-lighting Sign Cooperative Agreement.
I saw the fixture at USITT, and it addresses my only complaint about the Elation Impression (no zoom). I suspect both will be eclipsed (lighting joke, get it?) by the Vari*Lite VL X, albeit at a different price point and application.

I'm sure our recent new member, Cuelist, can answer any questions regarding this fixture.

I thought so! No zoom was my main contention with the Elation Impression as well. The 301 has a different advertised zoom range than the A7, though...maybe Martin did their own photometrics.

This fixture will probably become popular in a hurry, especially with Martin's extensive distribution network.

are you kidding me? I can deal with the lack of zoom - I can't deal with the colored shadows. drives me nuts about LEDs. They need to toss a fresnel lens on there on a worm gear and let the LEDs do the color mix as they are meant to. And while I am on about it I would like a CMY pallette to mix with. <-(I know... keep dreaming Frank!) Plus the variation from LED to LED and fixture to fixture is not as well managed as say an arc lamp with CMY filters. Too many LED manufacturers from brand to brand to have them mix well.

Yeah - I can be a little finicky, that being said... I like LEDs, just think we have a bit more ways to go before I spec as my wash light.

Sorry for late reply, I was in New York city demoing some of our new toys with great success.

Yes, the MAC301 is pretty much identical to the JB Lighting A7 fixture. After first seeing this unit at an early stage about 12 months ago, we saw the opportunity to match their fixture to our worldwide sales and support network for mutual benefit. JB Lighting are established in Germany but have had limited success elsewhere as it takes a long time to build a brand and support network.

It took a while to get this going mainly due to JB Lighting having to build an extension to their factory in order to cope with the quantities we have committed to.

The MAC301 has (of course) Martin branded yoke covers, label, some small changes to the menu text and of course a Martin manual.

The fixture comes with our warranty, support and spare parts backup.

The main difference to the GLP/Elation Impression is indeed the zoom optics but the MAC301 also has much smoother dimming, better color balance at full white, nicer movement and we keep the LEDs at low voltage, not high voltage (with its safety concerns) like the Impression.

I agree that 'blending in the air' isn't the ultimate solution but in reality the blending is better than usual with the MAC301.

A Fresnel lens may help but it would create other issues and add considerable weight and cost.

Our MAC 401 to released later this year uses multicolor LEDs pair with a zoom system. That product does not create any multicolor shadows (unless you want it to - you have that option available).
