Default WYSIWYG Pipe tape printing

Anyone have any (recent) experience with WYSIWYG pipe tape printing? I know there is a previous post on this subject, and I'm trying to find out if anyone has had any success using a non-WYSIWYG (a.k.a. not so expensive) cashier's tape printer to print pipe tapes.

Thanks!

Wyg requires a very specific driver to connect to the printer. Only one type of printer will work for this. This is a feature that I don't think they have done too much to in recent years. It was a big selling point early on and has kind of fell off the planet. I would love to see it developed more and go a bit more open. I don't own the printer, I still do it all by hand.

For hangs that aren't extensive (ie- not like an ERS every 18"), I've gotten into the habit of address labels on color-coded post-its. Say, purple was profiles, pink for washes, yellow for audience blinders, etc etc. It's very quick with an export from lightwright and a mailmerge in MS word. Takes 20 minutes instead of hours on the floor for a tape.

We use drywall tape and colored sharpies.
Printing would be a waste I would think.

I've used hang tape on a few large shows I designed where I had a lot of volunteers and needed to load in quickly. I believe I used jute webbing or something similar. I just cut a length equal to the length of the hanging position, then put a strip of white gaff wherever an instrument needs to hang. I write all the relevant information on this tape using a colored sharpie that is color coded for instrument type. The beauty of it is that it takes only seconds to attach it to the pipe, and it can be reused for another show. Doesn't take very long to make either.

rochem, Lumn8tion, and Footer, I believe you have missed iLightTheStage's point--it's faster, neater, and less error-prone to print yoke labels from whatever database you use and affix those to the hang tape.
