Reading another thread I thought of a question for you guys. Would an Enttec programming wing work with Chamsys MagicQ software?

Does it work with anything other than LightFactory?

According to Enttec's website, testing with MagicQ is underway. However, be aware that the free version of MagicQ is officially a "demo" version. The use of any of Chamsys' USB products will unlock this mode, allowing you access to all the features of the software. Therefore, and assuming that Enttec does their homework, you could use the programming wing with MagicQ if you were using the Chamsys USB to DMX, audio input, MIDI, etc. it should work.

The software is locked down to a degree in the demo mode. The mouse trackball function does not work in demo mode, as well as the HTML remote. This is why I doubt they will let the Enntec wing work with the system, they are pretty protective of the system when it comes to control interfaces. They are not really big into selling their USB to DMX products but they really want to sell their wings. |

I have ran many shows of the console as well, its running in my space right now. It is not locked down in the sense it is unusable, its just that there are a few features that do not work when you are not using either a wing or a Chamsys USB dongle. Its not a problem with my install, it is how they make the software. If both the trackball and Web remote work for you, please let me know.

Just to clarify what works and what we limit in the MagicQ software.
In standard mode, without any of our products attached, all 18 universes are active, the first can be selected from a list of third party interfaces. The remainder are output over the network with a choice of protocol. The software displays Demo Mode on the title bar to discourage people commercially installing it as part of a control system. We limit anything that could allow third party manufacturers create control surfaces, so the MIDI, remote network control etc are not functional. Connecting any of our products enables full functionality....... we have to make some money for all our efforts in writing the code. It is important to stress that we are not aiming to produce a Windows type application, the free version is built from the same code base as the console version (runs under Linux) and is available for Win PC'c, MAC's and Linux boxes. We offer support to users of the software whether it is the free version or have purchased part of the system hardware. We have had over 30,000 downloads from different URL's making it very widely used. GJM |
