Default Strand Shipping

Hey, what is the normal turn around for shipping a dimmer rack? I've been waiting for 2 months for my dimmer system. When i ordered the whole package, they shipped the console within a two weeks, but nothing else yet...

At ETC, we can ship Sensor racks within one week of a release. Is this "normal"?

It is for us.

I cannot speak for other manufacturers.

My experience buying new gear over the last couple of years says that while it's easy to blame Strand there are a lot of other places this could be screwed up. Could be your purchasing and billing department, the dealer you purchased it though, the distributor, Strand itself... and then there's always customs since you are in Canada. I sent you a PM with contact information for the Pacific Northwest Distributor of Strand equipment. I'm guessing that she handles Vancouver as well. If not she will know who to contact. She's been VERY helpful to me and will be able to help you figure out where your stuff is. Let us know what happens... as you have noticed the question of how Strand does business and customer service is a very hot topic around here. My feeling is the more facts we have the better it is for people to make up their mind about being a Strand customer or not in the future.

I had China customs loose an entire pallete of LED pars. The manufactuer is now resending them to me. When i sent gear up to canada for a rental i wasnt sure if it was ever going to get through customs. One truck went right through the other one was held up for about 2 days.

Canadian customs can be a joke, but it depends on the shipping method too. It the shipper is also a customs broker it tends to take longer...

The real question here is who you ordered it from, and what the whole system is entailed. While it might be easy to say that product can ship within two weeks, it really depends on how the job was set up, and all other items ordered.

Who, and when did you order the system? Was it quoted as a full job, or did you just call a supplier, and place the order that way?

Every job will be different no matter how you slice it. If you just ordered a dimmer rack it will be different if you ordered a whole dimming system, and if you are waiting on a draw set to get approved.

I've had issues in the last couple years where things I thought were ordered sat on the purchasing department's desk for months... or didn't get ordered at all. I've had things that the dealer screwed up and I ended waiting months because things were being returned and reordered a couple of times. I've had purchasing screw up and order the wrong things and ship them back and forth without telling me. I've also had orders placed and equipment shipped to the dealer's warehouse and sit there for months until they felt like sending someone out to install it. There are MANY potential problems... all made more difficult by that Canadian border.

In this economy, many items that are not mass produced take a lot longer to get. Manufacturers have reduced staff and have paired down inventory to save money. If it isn't something they sell every day, they may not have one sitting in a warehouse waiting for an order because that costs $. Instead, they may have to schedule one into production. Their parts suppliers are in the same boat, so even if production is ready to jump, they may be waiting on suppliers.

Not a fair un-bias sales related reply or one acceptable under the general guidelines in concepts of the forum in helping and offering advice or specific to the question asked. They already bought Strand in it being late in shipping and are not going to send it back in buying the ETC instead as more relible so the answer was instead a sales add seemingly.

While I might joke... "Euro month long vacation" type answer in why it didn't ship, Canada... had lots of stuff over the years held up at the boarder including tech people and drivers of the gear. 'At ETC we can ship.... is not a fair answer to the question asked.

You might if you have contacts with Strand offer help in contacting them in explaining this screw up instead and solving this problem and future problems by way of direct contact to the customer by way of them direct to this customer with the problem. This would be a better off line thing to do.

FMEng, I don't have a direct account with Strand US or UK as seperate companies now, but should you need a good contact PM me and I will go thru my supplires of such products to get a good stable contact with them for you in explination and potential problem solving. Otherwise as better yet I would recommend sending your post direct to them in getting their explination for why it happened and any potential if possible help in allieviating the problem or discount due to it.

You email STEVETERRY or ETC directly as with many companies directly and they would do similar problem solving if problem with their products. Strand will be much similar.

Ship--

My post was not intended to be an ad (after all, we pay for those on Control Booth!)--just a statement of fact. The poster asked a question about the normal times for shipping dimmer racks, and I replied. I also stated that this might not apply to any company other than ETC--for all I know some companies have one-hour shipping leadtimes on dimmer racks.

Note that the poster did not ask about the normal times for Strand to ship dimmer racks, which caused me to believe that he was surveying norms across the industry. And that is what my reply provided--just one data point in such a survey.
