There is indeed an actual phone jack on the back of the board. And yes, you can indeed use a cordless phone as a remote focus unit.
See Appendix D of the Element v1.6.0 user manual. It's called the "Phone Remote". It doesn't offer anywhere near the functionality of the actual Radio Focus Remote, but it is much cheaper and works in a pinch.

Yes the Element supports a phone remote. Plug any cordless base station into the RJ11 jack and refer to page 128 of the manual to learn how to use the phone keypad.

LightingPenguin, You must not know what I am talking about : ) If you go tot he link below and look at 0:28 seconds he talks abut it and you can see the phone line jack.

LightingPenguin was unfamiliar with the backplate of the Element. I didn't think it had one either until I looked it up. He is now aware.
