As you can tell, I work primarily as a stage manager. However, we are going to be getting started with AIDA shortly and I am extremely interested in the lighting design aspect for some reason. So just out of curiosity, how do you start to design lights for a show? Do you sketch? Just create a plot? Overall, I'm talking about your intial ideas and plans in your head. Thanks!

First off, welcome to CB! You might consider introducing yourself over in the new members forum, we are a very inquisitive bunch. I would also suggest you take a look at this article from our Wiki: Lighting Design Concept as it has lots of great info on how to get started with designing shows.
