Default Chauvet Colorstrips onstage too bright?

I'm putting together a lighting system for a rock band. I wanted to use 4 Chauvet Colorstrips across the stage, standing vertically, and facing the audience. The goal would be to use the scrolling and flashing as an effect. Would these be too bright for this type of application?

I wouldn't think so. If they are then you can always dim them. It really depends on whatelse you are using onstage.

you'd be good. The color strips are only 10mm, and really are best in that kind of focus, where you can see them directly, or with things very close. It's only when you start getting into the 1 watt or 3 watt Led units where directly into the audience is a bit harsh to take on the eyes.
And as Michael said, you can dim them, or get some cheap almost see thru fabric or a gel to difuse it a bit. I've done shows with R80 strips in this manner, always looked good.

I have used some Chauvet colorstrips for wall wash lights. Be aware that the ONLY dimming ability is when they are set to RGB mode, there is NO ability to dim them when they are in the effects mode. This is sort of an odd over sight on their part.

I have found that adding some diffusion can work

A couple points, the Colorstrips use 5mm diodes and if pointed directly at the audience will be harsh. For vertical usage I'd suggest a downward tilt of 20 degrees or so. This will give you the Eye Candy of the sequences without blinding those watching the show.

I think that Colorstrips vertically would be great, but a bit harsh - put diffusion on the front of them (try R119 or R114) to keep the audience happy.
