Default What color to use to make it look like the sun is coming up

Any suggestions on what color(s) would work best to make it look like the sun is rising in the morning. I was thinking orange but wanted hear what others have used.

Is this on the cyc or on the acting area? If the acting area, then Rosco 318 Mayan Sun side lit from a low angle might suit. YMMV. If the cyc then you'll likely want to be more saturated.

As stated above, a bit more information is required.

And more info than 'Cyc or front light' is needed. What color is the sunrise in the show that you are lighting.
  • Is it the cold light of dawn before a battle?
  • Is it a romantic sunrise coming up after a night of frivolity?
  • Are we in a city, a forest, a deserted heath, or the mountains?
  • What time of year is this - Are there clouds?
  • (assuming a proscenium theatre) where is the sun rising? Downstage, upstage, or offstage?

The color I would use for a sunrise would depend in part on these kinds of questions. (Lots of other questions as well - but let's start small).

The key is you are not 'Lighting a generic sunrise' you are lighting the sunrise for this specific show. Think about what that should look like in your mind. Nail all of the details you can. Once you do this, picking a color is easy.
