Default Smart Fade Portable Racks

Does anyone else have these? And if so what is your prefered method for passing DMX from one rack to the next?

If you have a touring rack set up, it comes with 1' (or so) dmx cables that goes from rack to rack. That is probably the easiest way to make it happen....

Yeah the 1 foot DMX cables were either value engineered out of this system or have been lost to time.

What's the story with the SmartFade links through the back?

That is for connection of the Smartlink between racks. SmartLink is an architectural protocol that is similar to the Unison stuff that ETC also makes. It has a limited feature set (in comparison to Unison) for a really low cost. These SmartLink jacks allow you to tie a station into one dimmer pack, and have it recall looks out of all the connected packs. Make sense?

So question then....why its it that if I have those tied together via the smartlinks I can pop DMX from a console into the first dimmer rack and have it pass to all the others?

I don't understand the question. Are you asking if it can be done, or telling me you can do it?

It can be done...except that everyone says it can't. That being said we've been running it through the dmx on the front.

My newest and greatest problem is that we're having individual dimmers freeze on...despite being hard powered cycled, deep system reset, dmx unplugged, everything but that one circuit being unplugged. I'm really perplexed.

You have a blown cube. Replace it.

Here's what I find odd about that Footer....If I've got a blown cube then I have 3 blown cubes because in the two racks of these **** things I have three different dimmers on three different packs.

Which is of course wholeheartedly likely (and was also the thought I had...I was just hoping it was something else!)

It happens, could be anything doing it. Make sure that there is not any signal light on or anything like that. I have yet to deal with the smartpacks, so I can't really help ya there. From what it sounds though, dimmer stuck on, dimmer have blown power cube. If etc was smart, it should be an easy thing to swap out. Can't be any worse then NSI or lighttronics packs, done way too many of those.
