Default What to do with a HOG II, that is dying

So i am looking for suggestions on what to do with our hog II. We are really beginning to think the cpu board is going out. It still works 50% of the time, but is very likely to crash on you, and when it does it will not read your show from the drive, it will give you a great message saying the software on the disk is a different version than the one in the console, even though you backed it up 5 min ago. So i am going to let HES play with it, and if they do say its dead, i'm currious what to do. I will not sell it to someone saying it works great and let them deal with it.

So when it does come back, and they say its dead we can use it as

Hook it up in a light lab or to ESP, WYG or some other visualizer and use it for rendering.

If it does come back as DOA, I'm sure you can sell it to another company to use for parts. Many think the discontinuation of the HogII was a huge mistake on the part of HES, and will continue to use them until, like yours, they are no longer "show reliable."

You might also try contacting the fine folks at LightParts. They have been known to repair equipment High End deemed "unrepairable."

Agreed, it will live on no matter what. Now that they dropped the iPC, hog II's are going to be in VERY short supply.

The hog II's were discontinued because the parts were no longer made thats why highend had to come out with the hog III so quickly. Intel quit making the processor that the hog was based upon, so without the processor you are stuck. Also, highend is still making the IPC.

I believe the IPC was discontinued the same time as DL2s.

Posted on the other Lighting Network on June 07, 2008:

In regards to the discontinuation of the Hog iPC, the decision is mostly market driven. Over the last year we have seen a drop in Hog iPC sales with those sales going to Road Hog and Road Hog Full Boar. The newer consoles have more of the features users have asked for and the Hog iPC design has been surpassed in terms of hardware. Most users prefer the newer integrated screeens, faster processors, sexier looks, and better pricing of the Road Hogs. In addition, we are continuing to see the original Wholehog 3 console ordered at a steady rate.

I am happy to see that some of you are going to miss the Hog iPC, but it will still be available via many rental shops and will continue to be supported. It is just time for sales of new consoles to move on to the Road Hog's and continue with the Wholehog 3.

when you go to highends website and click on consoles the IPC is the 3rd one on the list. (Hog III, Road Hog Full Boar, IPC, Road Hog, Hog 3PC). Also as far as the discontiunation of the DL2, I know some companys who would perfer to buy the DL2 over the DL3 due to pricing and the features they need.

Send it to the costume shop and see if they can make something with it. The fish won't like it, and it's too bulky a doorstop.

Power it up with 480v. You'll have lots of bacon for the crew.
