Default Sticky Faders

ETC Expression with subs which are a bit sticky. What is the appropriate step? Contact cleaner? Ask ETC? What?

Tell people to stop drinking soda around the console?

Never really had this problem, but I'd give ETC a call and ask what they suggest to use. ETC tech support is too good not to take advantage of it! (And you don't want to use the wrong thing and break the console)

Probably regular tuner cleaner is what they'd recommend. Deoxit would probably work too, probably a little better.

Also a sign that reads "Don't Pour The Coke Into The Board" might help too.

It's an ETC loaner board, no soda has been near it.

At least not that YOU know of. Anything could be in that board... And I do mean anything...

Loaner boards always do seem a little sticky and gritty feeling. Got an EDI Bijou from Norcostco once as a loaner and while it was a nice board to use, I felt like I needed to wash my hands after touching it.

Loner boards are usually worse. If its not THEIR console, why should anyone be careful with it? </sarcasm>

Actually that's very accurate in some cases.

Don't do anything to someone else's console - at least with out talking to them first. If it's a loaner console, then call ETC. They may just say to leave it alone, or they may tell you what you can use on it, just be sure to tell them that it is a loaner console when you talk to them.

DeoxIT is a wonderful product for CONTACTS. You'll find contacts in switches and connectors. I always have a can of the stuff nearby. But, do not use DeoxIT for pots and faders. It will kill them, eventually.

The same company makes a pot and fader friendly product, called FaderLube. That's what you need.

I know somebody who just cleaned their 520i with Deoxit and resulted in the submasters going really funky. You should definitely watch out and take his advice on the faderlube.
