Electric Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV

Has anyone else started to become wary of Philips, as they acquire more and more companies? So far, a Wikipedia entry is the closest list I can find as to what they possess, but especially in the lighting industry they're starting to create an overwhelming presence, holding Genlyte, which holds Strand, as well as Color Kinetics, Lumileds, plus the manufacturing of lamps they already take care of. That doesn't even touch their other sectors besides lighting.

Philips - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I want to raise the question to people, should we be worried about this, or will this better the industry? We almost have to assume as more time goes by, more trademarks they will acquire.

Quantity don't mean quality look at Fourth Phase but I digress as a joke - really a joke.

Often much harder once departments get smaller and smaller in overall scope to get real change, on the other hand often once the scope is large enough good for innovation.

Been holding out years for the NEC/Leviton connection to make headway, that's an investment if I made it that won't have gone far. On the other hand, who knows. And they also own LTI now that was opened up by Osram engineers if memory serves as a curiosity.

Big business verses small - very global and I'm not going to get in the way unless where I work gets bought out where I might find myself looking or part of dependant on the contract. Don't mean I would be any less innovative as example of how it would possibly not reflect on outcome but at times also be only a small step child in care and concern for innovation.

Not to worry yet, just look at how many companies owned LEE filters over the years yet they still keep trucking along without change.

Do you have any idea how many patents they would control if they did?
