Fresnels are still and will be the defacto instrument in studio lighting, what are you looking for here? What is going to replace the fresnel?

It has often been said,"there are no stupid questions", I think this could be the exception that proves the rule.

Fresnels, especially for TV studios, are far from old school. There are companies developing new models, advances being made in lamp technology, and many sold regularly. DeSisti and Arri are popular companies, as well as Mole-Richardson; and even Altman makes studio fresnels (Proline series).

The digital media class at my school just bought new fresnels for their studio. (Which is great for us, becasue we got 3x 10" 2000W Mole-Richardson fresnels from them for free.) Fresnels are definitely still in use.

I was trying to link to sites with a slightly more diverse selection of fixtures than the lonely Fresnelite. I was also leaning more towards the companies that make other TV fixtures. Plus...when was the Fresnelite last updated? The one on the website looks almost exactly like the ones in our blackbox that are at least fifteen years old...

Output is much better and lamp life is significantly longer.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
