Cue List

Does anyone have a template for cue lists or spot cue lists, in File Maker?

I don't think spot cues are something that needs a Filemaker database. An Excel form should suffice.

Presuming, of course, you have no more than 65536 cues to enter (or 65535 plus a header row).

I can't say I've run into a situation where 65535 wasn't enough .. though I have a few times contemplated building a mysql or sqlite database for driving paperwork and cueing.

Seems an appropriate opportunity to plug Rob Halliday's product, - FocusTrack: Home -. It is an amazing piece of work.

Rob and I have talked about how one day, everything might be done on the lighting console (or off-line editor), instead of
LD drafts plot in Vectorworks,
Assistant generates Lightwright file,
ME uses Excel to input cable lengths, etc., then
exports to Word to print cable and yoke labels,
meanwhile, plot is imported into ESP Vision for pre-viz.

Five programs, not including the console software. Nuts.

Ooh, I really like the look of that! If Rob priced it in just a little lower bracket I'd probably jump on it now.

It's the moving-light-centric version of pretty much what I'd been thinking of.

I've talked, to no avail, to both Rob Halliday (FocusTrack) and John McKernon (Lightwright™) about a lower-priced, possibly less-than-fully-featured "Educational Version" of their software. Unlike most other software companies, both are one-man shops who just can't afford to offer discounts and still maintain the level of service they desire to provide. Understandable.

They did, they called it emphasis, and it didn't work, remember? Emphasis would go as far as printing pipe tapes for you. It does/did it all except the cable planning, though I have been told it will auto-assign dimmers if correctly drawn into the venue.

Thanks, footer, I had indeed forgotten about Emphasis (don't you wish everybody could?). Much of Emph's non-console related shortcomings can be traced to WYSIWYG, and WYG's attempts to encompass too many of the non-previz aspects.

I still think its a good idea, but an elegant and workable solution is some ways off. Also, it would need to be written from the ground up, and not as a bolt-on to a console's OS. I suspect NO one wants to see an EOS--now with Emphasis!
