First of if you work at Oregon Shakes do you know Allen Adams?
Secondly approaching color and angle is exactly what I was talking about in the post where I put up one of my magic sheets.
First of charity isn't a emotion. Its an action based on an emotion such as empathy or sympathy. Both of which could lead to two very different color and angle pallettes. Don't look at this step as R03 FL and R80 down...look at it more as Light/pale blue or deep red. At the end of the excercise you can put all of them together figuring out which are most important to the play as a whole, which can do double duty for different parts of the play and which can move because you just plain don't have the inventory.
I don't have a scanner readily available or I'd show you some of mine.
I'll give you an example...the age old feeling of impending doom. Which would need angles not found natrually...uplight in a stark color...back light in a med red trying to hide the face.....
I live in Fl. but I'm doing some online work and attend Southern Oregon University in the summers. It's a great program as we work with the designers of the Oregon Shakesp. Fest. in Ashland.
My instructions for the magic sheets is "a POV from the center of house. It depicts one lighting area in the light plot. It is a diagram which indicates how the designer intends to approach color and angle during differents beat in the play's action." It is NOT a hook-up (patch sheet) or light plot (focus, color, angle, fixture type).
He wants each gel color to represent an emotion tied to the play's beats. What the heck color is charity? Thank you all for your posts. I find them very useful and would like more feedback. I have over 200 + fixtures not inculding my 26 Martin intelligent fixtures.
