You very possibly did see something about it, I just found out last week they (Osram) finally announced this lamp at USITT. Seems the director or entertainment lighting in the US, got a bit busy at the time of it in not telling me they had them under production.

We go a way back - both theater people, and I was entrusted in bringing this Controlbooth request and one they in me taking that request to the lamp to a few manufactureres, took us up on it. Send the same request amongst a few lamps on each visit to the various makers and only Osram took me up on it. Saw the prototype a few months ago and was asked not to say much about it in that since they did it, they wanted at least a few months lead time on the other manufacturers before they also if a hit came to market with it.

Fair enough so I in seeing and testing the prototype was under gag order for the last like four months about the specific lamp.

Still it got out on the market and just last Friday in reminding them, I got my first two free sample play test lamps which I sent out to my local theaters. Was supposted to be my local theaters play testing the lamps and attesting to them but that didn't work out so well.

Still, this lamp as of me reading a PLSN news letter a day after replying to you and me after that contacting my source at Osram did indeed turn out to be this lamp.

Read the post I made on this lamp on the forum, much less join. Kind of a pass on and contribute your help to others type of thing.

On this new Fresnel lamp. Going to set the world on fire but only for those that can afford to do the 300hr lamp life as similar to that of a high output Leko. Good lamp but similar to the HPR lamp, unless people buy, not going anywhere.

Well i think it is actually on it's way because i saw an ad for it somewhere. I believe they called it a BTO but i could be wrong. As for my log on i made it when i was just starting and subsequently have changed to the whatever gets the job done is best school of thought. If i could change it i would.

    Thanks

The HPL lamp is still for at least the next few years under licence by ETC and will never become anything other than what the want it to be. See the ill fated Phillips “Sink” version of the GLA/GLC with removable heat sink allowing it to work in both S-4 and Altman Leko. Didn’t last too long but did make a concept and statement. And yes I did put one of the removable heat sinks on a FEL lamp than put it into a S-4 Leko... not pretty in barbaric beam of light.

The HPL lamp itself for ETC fixtures should have by now announced a upgraded lamp version to it. Believe GE is working on the upgraded version of it and I don’t yet know how it will be different but its coming.

But still HPL lamps are of the 115v type refined filament generation in lamps, as opposed to them we get the (HX-600) GLC/GLA series of lamps for non-ETC Lekos that are for the most part just as good while different. Slightly different filament structure due to patient laws but still good third generation lamps. First to market on the other hand for the fourth generation lamp was Osram with the HPR 575/115v lamp with internal reflector which is not such a unique thing - they had reflectors for FEL lamps years ago, but for a 575w/115v lamp on the other hand, that’s something interesting which allows a Altman 360Q to out-punch a S-4 leko. Not as optically pure on the other hand in that its only using a HX-600/FLK lamp filament which was a mistake as opposed to using a GLC filament. Darned good lamp, and too bad the marketing even with free tee-shirt give away to play test it didn’t take off but that’s the way it is. I switched to that lamp with my own lights, very few others.

So back to the 65Q BTL series type 2.3/8" P-28s lamps. Got some contacts with various manufacturers and one of them took the idea someone from this forum thought of in having the Fresnels match that of the Lekos which I thought good idea and presented to him. A few months later I physically installed this GLC lamp with a Medium Pre-Focus base into a Altman 65Q fixture and play tested it with both another Fresnel and Leko. Yep... that out to work. - simply stated. Had to give it back and it’s the only one of it’s kind in existence at the moment. This as with the upgraded HPL lamp does exist and was to be coming onto the market this summer. Both no doubt a bit late to the market.

They are coming and do exist, just not yet on the market. In the mean time, the best long life 360Q type lamp on the market for high output is one of a few. The HPR 575/115v for basic high output at 575w/115v and the GLC for gobos in the same. The Philips GLA for long life. The GLE for 750w/115v long life and the Philips #6981P for high output in 750w/115v. IN HPL lamps, all for the most part are the same for now. For Fresnels... nope, not on the market yet but coming. This or perhaps some market research said nobody was interested in such a thing and they are not coming.

Have to ask the manufacturer that did the lamp in the morning in asking about the lamp. Last I knew it was behind schedule but past that should have had my first prototypes to play test by now. I’m first in line and will know first on that lamp as with a few others I’m testing.

PS. On your log on ETCrulesyourface name... You have obviously never seen a 20 year old Altman 3.5Q5 totally out class a 50degree ETC Source Four Leko with HPR 575/115v lamp installed in it or such a title wouldn’t be there. Trust me, much more flat field in beam with hard edge and you can see the beam of the Altman inside of the S-4 beam easily. Put such a lamp into a Shakespeare, and again totally out-classed and mis-matched. But I digress off topic.

New lamps coming of all sorts and when I mention stuff like liquid filled lamps to manufacturer reps, sweat develops on their brow.... lots of product improvement yet to come to market.

    Hope it helps.

A cheseborough is a double pipe or scaffold clamp on a pivot or fixed at a ninety degree angle.

They are made for attaching one pipe to another in a way that will come apart more easily than a Rota Lock (which would be better for a perminant install) with a easily yet are load rated as opposed to a Kee Clamp that is not designed for such a purpose.

See the Backstage Handbook II page 83 (a sort of stage dictionary with the pictures and lots of good info) for details on what the various pipe clamps are. Other stuff on the market also and lots of versions of Cheseborough available.

Cheseboroughed being a sort of verb of a term in reference to a noun Cheseborough a pipe clamp actively in use for holding something.

    Hope it helps.
