I stumbled upon this forum via google and have found the threads interesting. Green technology as it applies to lighting is my main interest and now more than ever it seems that revolutionary options are available.

Welcome to the Booth, 'sky. While there may be options available, I doubt many would call them revolutionary. More like: impractical, unworkable, expensive, untested, and "you'll have to pry this incandescent lamp from my cold dead hands."
Sadly, it appears theatre lighting people may soon be at battle with environmentalists to protect our tungsten-halogen lamps. New technologies like CFLs, LEDs, plasma sources, et al. have their applications, but are of limited use in the theatre. Search CB for some threads on the aforementioned terms, and you'll see the prevailing sentiment.

I agree that incandescent bulbs shouldn't be blindly banned from use and that there are many applications where they are the best solution. Furthermore green technology manufacturers need to listen to the overwhelming chorus of users and apply the technology more intelligently. I've started to see products moving in the right direction and hopefully the discussion of light source technology will disappear and all we know is that our utility bills are less, maintenance costs are down, and we have a new flexible tool that keeps the focus on the "stage".
