Hello my Name is James.
I have been in theater for four years now, man has it been that long already. I work at the Playwrights Theater in New Jersey, small professional theater, tier six if I recall correctly. I also work for the 12 Miles West theater company which lost its home and has been with us for the last three years. tier 1. (very small professional company)
Both theater companies are small. I am their one person technical staff. I get to do all the fun tasks from board programming, light hangs, set construction, to cleaning the bathroom and fixing the sink drain.... A little humility is good once and again. I have seen this site before and figured I would finally say hello.
I also just finished striking my first SOLO lighting and set design. Though it was for the small acting company which was is a part of 12 Miles West it was still fun and rewarding. I got to try all the neat things I have been wanting to and I got to empty the gaudy bag of cliche lighting tricks, its nice to do a children's show after doing serious theater for so long.
