    Default Hello from Slovakia :)

I have been stalking Controlbooth for over two years now and my feelings of shame for not even saying hello overwhelmed me tonight. So here I go.

By major degree and gut feeling I am director making his living by acting and loving lighting design so much that I iniciated stage lighting course at our university and, lacking someone more experienced (with my diploma thesis being the very first academical source on the topic), lead it. Our two-semestre test run finished last week and next year we are starting officially. The course is open for set designers and directors, being the most appropriate substitutes for non-existant light designer major, with hope to expand to full five-year major course as an autonomus profession in a ten-year horizon. I would therefore greatly appreciate any advice, literature, as much sources as possible, basically any word of wisdom will be helpful.

Cheers and please, forgive me my not-that-great English, I am not a native speaker and it has been a long time since I finished my classes...

    Welcome to the ControlBooth!!!

You've taken quite a step and risked your sanity with this new lighting class. Good for you! Sometimes we don't know our creative side until we step out of the comfort zone, and you've leaped out of yours. There are so many experienced and helpful people here at the ControlBooth willing to assist each other. Don't be afraid to use the Wiki and Search features (which you've probably used already in the past 2 years) and ask the questions you have.

We look forward to your insight as well, so don't be shy about how things are going in the program.

    Once again, welcome aboard!

    Thank you.

As you correctly pointed out, I have been a happy user of Search function. Actually, it answered every single question or problem I was struggling with so far. My New Member post was meant more as a way to thank you all guys than begging for more information I might not even consider being needed. Then again, I do beg a little.

Welcome to the Booth! Your English is quite passable, maybe better than some native speakers.

I have seen wonderful uses of projection technology come out of your area of the world. If you get stumped, by all means ask questions. As for reading material, I hope that you have already discovered our Wiki, which may be one of the greatest conglomeration of theatrical data outside of the classroom. One of the collaborative articles is one on Theater Books and another on Industry Periodicals. Enjoy!
