    Default Aiphone intercom

So, my church used to have an Aiphone "intercom" of sorts, linking the old sound booth with one of the chairs on stage, by way of their little white telephones with call buttons that beeped the other phone when pressed. They were connected by XLR.

Somehow, we have misplaced one of the phones. We still have the phone that was in the old sound booth, with the power supply. From what I can tell, the phone that was on stage had no power supply on it's own, pulling it's power from the booth phone's supply through the 2 wires used for power and signal. Does this sound correct?

Now, does anyone know if it possible to rig an old regular telephone to work with this system? It doesn't need to be pretty, as it will never make it's way back on stage. I am also not that concerned with the call light/button, though it would be nice.

    Thanks for any help.

I think your best bet may be to purchase a used handset via internet auction or A/V classifieds. An Aiphone two-way phone intercom sold for $5.00 on Govdeals.com about a week ago.

I have a feeling that the Aiphone is running a proprietary interconnect. Yes it's probably just a DC supply with the audio modulated over the top, but without tech docs or a test bench, you just can't know.

I tend to agree eBay and co are likely your best solutions...
