Default New Allen & Heath Digital Mixing System

With this, GLD Series | ALLEN & HEATH // WORLD CLASS MIXING, the new Behringer X32 (if ever released), the Soundcraft Si Compact and others, it looks like the 'entry level' digital mixer market may get much more interesting. Don't know the price yet on this one yet but it is apparently intended to be below the iLive-T in the A&H lineup and to be a digital option to the analog GL consoles..

I hope it is price competitive to the LS9-32.

Looks cool, but Allen and Heath makes it a no go right off the bat for a lot of people since they're pretty universally listed on riders as unacceptable consoles.

    Why are they unacceptable?

The GL2400 is pretty widely accepted for smaller venues. That is what is in our smaller room and we rarely hear a complaint. Its not a heritage, but it has more features then a venice. Hell, we have gotten riders in that say no BSS comps...

Yes, in smaller venues they are typically the most reliable for the price range small venues are looking for. You said it, I'd rather have a GL2400 any day over a Venice. I've never had a problem with BSS comps, it's the ACP88 that I see in every small club and absolutely despise it. I patch the Behringer quad thing over the Presonus any day.

Actually, I was just reading on Sound Forums Network, and it says:
GLD will be launching at NAMM 2012. Suggested retail pricing is:

    GLD-80 + GLD-AR2412 £5,652.91
    GLD-80 + GLD-AR2412 + GLD-AR84 £6,267.35
Or, for the control surface and 24 in/12 out rack is $7,368.20 USD.
And, the control surface, a 24 in/12 out rack, and an 8 in/4 out rack is $8,169.08 USD.

Universally unacceptable? A quick search for "Allen & Heath" and "tech rider" brings up the following items (skipping DJ type setups with XOne mixers):

modern deep left quartet :: technical rider :: live :: wagon repair / ca

    http://www.toxicaudio.com/pdf/Toxic%...s%20081811.pdf

    http://www.honeymusic.com.au/Honey_TechRider.pdf

    http://www.sixvocalensemble.com/rider.pdf

    http://www.2wild4.com/sm/techrider.pdf

    http://www.echelonministries.com/Ech...iderNoEars.pdf

    TR Kiss forever

And for a bit more well known name, http://www.realizator.pl/files/rider...68bbeab1-1.pdf

Through several pages of Google search results, every single tech rider reference to Allen & Heath is asking for or accepting A&H consoles. So hardly universally unacceptable.

However, there are some tech riders that do exclude A&H. Some do so because there was a time in the past when A&H had some problems that led to their being excluded in many tech riders, but that was some time ago. Some tech riders excluding Allen & Heath really seem to be trying to address a more general issue and trying to exclude entry level analog mixers in general, applying the poor practice of using brand names in general rather than identifying specific products. And some exclude Allen & Heath because of specific preferences in user interfaces or in the case of digital consoles, initial programming and/or using existing show files.

The other factor here is that the GLD is an entry level digital mixer made to compete with the Roland M-400/480, Soundcraft Si Compact and Yamaha LS9. While many of the applications of such consoles would not involve tech riders. Of course everyone is going to have their personal preferences and the SLD will probably not an acceptable alternative for tech riders calling for a PM5D, Venue, etc., but at least once it is proven in some actual use I don't see tech rider acceptance being an issue compared to the direct competition.
