Is there a way in Windows Media player to prevent one track (cue) from automatically continuing on to another once the first track is finished? Other than of course just remembering to pause/stop it and take out all speaker volume?
As a person who is all to often responsible for running both lights and sound in major traveling productions and even minor events every once in a blue moon it happens that I will forget to take out the volume and a cue will briefly start and appear out of place before I stop it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! |

We have this same problem, we asked our IT manager and he didn’t know of a way, though mind you he isn’t a very good IT manager. We did look around for a way of doing it but no we couldn’t find a way. I think ITunes has a way of doing that.

It sounds like you need some cue list software. I've written one called MultiPlay. It's freeware (donations accepted!) and available here.

Its the newest version of Media Player (I don't know the specific title), but its fancier what I used to consider to be the default program. It actually looks more like an itunes window but it definitely is Media Player.
Thanks for the tip on the cue software, I'll definately try that out! |

Create a playlist with only that cue in it and make sure the repeat button is turned off. Select the play list and when you run the cue it will not continue to play any other cues. Only one cue per play list!!!!

I should have elaborated before, what we did in the end was extremely bad, in the dress rehearsal we just open the audio file when we needed it, and in rehearsal it all went fine! Came to the show and the files took like 5 seconds to buffer so half of the cues were late... was not happy. So what we did but didn't work all to well because the OP was bran new was to pull the fader down open the file put it to the start put the fader up and play the cue when we needed, this system dose not work with fast cues one after the other, unless you edit the audio cues into one big cue, very uncontrolled though.
Yes I would suggest getting a cue playback software, a few good ones that I know are SFX and SCS witch are very easy to use and very flexible. There are quite a few free ones out there, I haven't used any but you cant judge a book by its cover, they might be brilliant you don't know. There is one person on controlbooth that has developed a free cue playback software, ill have a look for him. wouldent this have the same problem that i had with the buffing? |

WARNING MULTIPLAY TESTIMONIAL::::
after reading about some of the show control stuff on other threads i decided to play around with Multiplay for our Current show in space "Lips Together Teeth Apart. I'm not using ti to run the entires show as i don't have the actually sound card audio outputs to run the multiple bus outs i require. But i'm using it to play ' Bug Zaps', that require precision timing on a word by word basis (per the director). Its working great. I have the line out of the IBM Thinkpad into a channel on our mix console and have it sent to a bus out to tiny speaker upstage. Easy to use, and precision play back, not time taken pulling the audio file and buffering it. by default cues don't autofollow, but that doesn't mean you can't link tracks together should you need to :-) |

Ye but if you need it to start like 3 seconds after it becomes dicucult for a first time OP |

Use Winamp. It has an option for stopping the playback after the current track is done. You have to right-click the stop button to get to it. (stop after current)
And it's free. |
